2006 Week 3 Power Rankings

Here are the power rankings for Week 3. The rankings were 8-6 last week. For the season, we’re 28-18, or tied for 8th in King Kaufman’s Panel Of Experts. We’ll stick with the combined ’05-’06 power rankings for at least another week, since they outperformed the ’06-only rankings last week. For review, here is this week’s beatpath graph.

Rank Team Notes Last Week BeatPower

1

(Beat JAC) The Colts’ win over Jacksonville was slightly more valuable than Denver’s win over New England, so the two teams swap places atop the rankings this week.

2

96.3

(25/27 – 0/27)

2

(Beat NE) Denver’s current got a pretty broad foundation of beatpaths holding them high in the rankings.

1

89.6

(19/24 – 0/24)

3

(Beat NYG) Much of Seattle’s rise is because Carolina’s win helped them shed their Dallas beatloss, which makes the Giants look better.

6

84.2

(13/19 – 0/19)

4

(Lost to IND) Doesn’t damage you a lot to lose to a top-ranked team.

4

85.4

(18/24 – 1/24)

5

(Lost to CIN) Pittsburgh loses their beatpath to Cincinnati, but it doesn’t hurt their ranking yet.

5

77.3

(14/22 – 2/22)

6

(Lost to DEN) All this talk about Denver having New England’s number sells Denver short.

3

76.1

(14/23 – 2/23)

7

(Beat TB) Carolina should bring New Orleans down to earth this week.

8

76.1

(12/23 – 0/23)

9

76.2

(13/21 – 2/21)

9

(Lost to SEA) The Giants rest this week after entering the top ten.

13

66.7

(9/18 – 3/18)

10

(Bye) Carolina’s strength makes Dallas’ late-season ’05 win over them look like a fluke.

7

66.7

(8/18 – 2/18)

11

(Lost to CHI) Even though Chicago won…

11

61.9

(9/21 – 4/21)

12

(Beat MIN) …both teams hold steady in their rankings.

12

64.3

(9/21 – 3/21)

13

(Lost to NO) Their loss to New Orleans is seen as a fluke, although this won’t last as we convert to the ’06 only.

15

59.5

(8/21 – 4/21)

14

(Bye) Chargers have a lot of downside and not much upside from how they play Baltimore this week.

16

60.0

(4/15 – 1/15)

15

(Lost to CAR) Tampa Bay gets a needed break.

10

47.2

(2/18 – 3/18)

16

(Beat HOU) No big reward for beating Houston.

14

67.6

(7/17 – 1/17)

17

(Beat TEN) No big reward for beating the Titans, either.

18

47.1

(2/17 – 3/17)

18

(Bye) How bad is Kansas City? How good is San Francisco?

17

43.8

(2/16 – 4/16)

19

(Lost to NYJ) Buffalo has an opportunity to define themselves this week against Minnesota.

21

43.3

(1/15 – 3/15)

20

(Beat CLE) Baltimore had a closely matched game with Cleveland last week, barely won…

19

40.0

(1/15 – 4/15)

21

(Lost to BAL) …and the two teams swap places in the graph.

20

39.3

(1/14 – 4/14)

22

(Lost to GB) Detroit still seems to have a glimmering of potential.

23

39.1

(7/23 – 12/23)

23

(Beat BUF) The Jets slightly strengthen their standing with a win.

24

33.3

24

(Beat DET) Green Bay gains on Detroit by defeating them.

26

23.5

(0/17 – 9/17)

25

(Lost to STL) Arizona rises because their beatpath to Philadelphia re-emerges.

27

28.6

(6/21 – 15/21)

22

25.0

27

(Bye) Cleveland is favored over Oakland.

28

17.5

(0/20 – 13/20)

28

(Lost to PHI) San Francisco can finally start their climb out of the basement with a win over Kansas City.

29

18.2

(3/22 – 17/22)

29

(Beat ARI) I can’t really believe that Detroit is the pick over St. Louis, but it is.

30

11.9

(2/21 – 18/21)

30

(Lost to MIA) Tennessee hosts Dallas, a clear pick for Dallas.

25

16.0

(1/25 – 18/25)

31

(Beat ATL) Atlanta had an alternate beatpath to New Orleans – so the Saints still have a lot to make up for. But they do climb a spot.

32

10.0

(0/25 – 20/25)

32

(Lost to WAS) Poor Gary Kubiak.

31

1.9
