Quite a different graph this time around. The power rankings picks were 11-5 this week – pretty good, although it seems everyone did pretty good this week. The big changes is that Jacksonville and Pittsburgh are both smacked down hard, and are in the bottom half of the rankings again.
There are hardly any [...]
Here are the latest power rankings – we’re 84-76 for the season so far, or tied for dead last in King Kaufman’s Panel O’ Experts. Yep, that ain’t too good, although I should point out that this is the same system I’ve backtested over the last three years and the pick record is usually [...]
Crazy weekend! Our power rankings picks were 4-12; upsets galore. This was basically a tectonic shift of the power centers in the graph. Pittsburgh rises. Jacksonville rises. Cincinnati rises. Remember that every team depends on every other team – it wasn’t simply Pittsburgh’s win that made them rise, [...]
Here are the latest power rankings. We’re 80-64 for the season, or tied for thirteenth in King Kaufman’s Panel O’ Experts. The vanilla variant was actually one game better last week, successfully picking the SF/DET game, since it rewarded San Francisco’s rise in the rankings a bit sooner than the beatflukes variant did.
First, [...]
Whew! Check out this graph. I don’t think I’ve seen one this tall in the last two years. The power rankings were 8-8 this week. What’s interesting about this week is that there are almost no beatloops. What I mean by that is that almost all of the beatloops [...]
Time for Week 9’s power rankings. The height of the graph collapsed a bit due to more beatloops and upsets. This means that this week’s rankings use the previous week’s rankings as a tiebreaker a bit more often than they usually do.

An interesting situation happened with Carolina this week. If you review the previous entry, you’ll see three of Carolina’s wins are currently considered beatflukes. This one is a little hard for me to defend, so I’m going to explore it a little more.
Look at the beatfluke graph again:
Normally there would have been [...]
Here’s the post-MFN beatpaths graph for Week 9. No rock-papers-scissors for IND/DEN/NE! Last week’s power rankings were 8-6, and we’re 72-56 for the year, or 13th in King Kaufman’s Panel O’ Experts.

Beatflukes: CAR=>TB, CAR=>NO, CAR=>BAL, MIA=>CHI, STL=>DEN (yes, very weird that Carolina has three beatflukes – a very tough team to define)

Here’s the Week 8 Power Rankings. We were 6-8 this week, which appeared to be pretty average compared to the Panel O’ Experts. Beatpaths is at 64-50, or 13th, ahead of four others.
Here again is Week 8’s beatpaths graph, for review:
