2008 NFL Week 4 Beatpaths Graph
Here’s the Beatpaths graph for Week 4. Horrible record this week of 6-7, lots of upsets – but quite an interesting graph.
One new beatloop this week: KC->DEN->OAK->KC.

What was it I was saying about this week being boring? A pile of points in New York, Kansas City wins, and at this moment I the scoreboard shows Oakland shutting out San Diego, St. Louis winning, and Washington ahead of Dallas…
Beatpaths was 10-6 last week, for a total record of 29-18. My “personal picks” that conflict with the Beatpaths picks were 1-1; I’m 2-3 so far.
This looks like a semi-boring week, with several interesting teams having byes.
Atlanta at CAROLINA: Carolina is highly favored over Atlanta. The two teams are playing for a beatpath, [...]
I don’t seem to have to do this often, but here’s a bit of errata – since I was playing around with new tiebreakers, I forgot to put Week 2’s results into the system when I came up with Week 3. I’ve corrected it now, with three effects:
Week 3 was 10-6, not 11-5. [...]

(Beat CIN) The Giants are finally atop the rankings, mostly due to the strength of Washington’s beatpath.

(Beat GB) Dallas retains the #2 spot, but for entirely different reasons – the strong beatpath to Philadelphia, and the less strong but still potentially impressive beatwin over Green Bay.

Here’s the Beatpaths graph for Week 3. This is the first week where things are starting to look clean. Beatpaths picks were 11-5 10-6 this week.
How about that NFC East, eh?
Two beatloops were removed: MIA->NE->NYJ->MIA, and MIN->CAR->CHI->IND->MIN .
Miscellaneous observations:
Last week’s power rankings are 10-5 9-6 so far this week.
The only two teams with beatpaths to every other team in their division: Denver and Arizona.
#31 beat #1, with some awesome direct snap misdirection.
And it’s time to start thinking of tiebreaker and rank strategies.
There are two stages to determining rankings. First is the [...]
Beatpaths was 11-4 last week, for a total record of 19-12. My “personal picks” were 9-6 last week, for a total record of 18-13. As always, the CAPS are the official pick, although I will occasionally make a personal pick the other way (I’m 1-2 at them so far.)
CAROLINA at Minnesota: And there’s [...]
The beatpaths picks were 11-4 this week. I’m leaving on the vanilla tiebreaker for at least one more week, which refers to the previous week’s rankings in case of a tie. There are no beatloops yet, so the rankings respect the outcome of every game so far this season.

As Moose pointed out, a fully connected graph in Week 2. Next week is when it really gets fun, but it’s already interesting. Beatpaths picks were 11-4 this week.
Don’t read much into the vertical placement, it’s graphviz that does it. Pittsburgh could just as easily be very low on the graph. [...]
