2009 NFL Week 15 Picks

Time for the Week 14 picks!

Isaacson-Tarbell was 12-4 last week, leading all variants. Beatpaths was 10-6 and ITB was 11-5. I was 1-3 on my personal picks, so I’m now one ahead of ITB for the season. The BeatPicks were 5-1, or 50-19 for the season. There are nine BeatPicks this week, and I will personally pick Cincinnati.

Once again, the beatpicks are: If there is a beatpath, pick the favored team. Otherwise, pick the team with the best win-loss record. If they’re the same, pick who beatpaths favors in the beatpath rankings. An (x) means you might want to consider overruling in favor of the home team.

Last Week 12-4 10-6 11-5
Indianapolis (13-0) at Jacksonville (7-7): Indianapolis is a unanimous pick and a BeatPick over Jacksonville. IND IND* IND
Dallas (8-5) at New Orleans (13-1): New Orleans is a unanimous pick over Dallas, but it’s actually not a BeatPick. If I had managed to put this up before the actual Saturday afternoon game, I would have said I thought Dallas had a real chance against New Orleans and that New Orleans was ready to blink. But given home field advantage I wouldn’t have personally picked Dallas. NO NO NO
Miami (7-6) at Tennessee (6-7): Miami is a unanimous pick and a BeatPick over Tennessee. I think there is a real beatloop opportunity here, but Miami has a more realistic shot at getting in the playoffs as Tennessee, so there shouldn’t be a letup. MIA MIA* MIA
Houston (6-7) at St Louis (1-12): Houston is a unanimous pick and a BeatPick over St. Louis. HOU HOU HOU
Atlanta (6-7) at NY Jets (7-6): Isaacson-Tarbell picks the NY Jets due to the better record, but Beatpaths picks Atlanta. Since it is a BeatPick, Atlanta is the official ITB pick. This is the first game of the season where the NFL’s playoff-seeding procedure unfairly affects things – Atlanta just got mathematically eliminated from the playoffs so they will likely not be playing as hard, while the NY Jets are playing for the playoffs. NYJ ATL* ATL
Cleveland (2-11) at Kansas City (3-10): Flip the records and this is a hell of a game! Cleveland actually has a beatpath to Kansas City, which overrules IT picking KC. KC CLE* CLE
Arizona (8-5) at Detroit (2-11): Arizona is a unanimous pick and BeatPick over Detroit. ARI ARI* ARI
New England (8-5) at Buffalo (5-8): New England is a unanimous pick and a distant, distant BeatPick over Buffalo. NE NE* NE
Cincinnati (9-4) at San Diego (10-3): San Diego is a unanimous pick and a BeatPick over Cincinnati. I will personally pick Cincinnati. SD SD* SD
Oakland (4-9) at Denver (8-5): No BeatPick here because of prior beatloops, but Denver is ranked comfortably ahead of Oakland. A unanimous pick. DEN DEN DEN
Tampa Bay (1-12) at Seattle (5-8): Seattle is a unanimous pick and a BeatPick over Tampa Bay. SEA SEA* SEA
Green Bay (9-4) at Pittsburgh (6-7): No BeatPick here, and the two teams are closely ranked, close enough that home field might be a consideration. It’s a unanimous pick for Green Bay, though. GB GB(x) GB
San Francisco (6-7) at Philadelphia (9-4): This is a unanimous pick and a BeatPick for Philadelphia. PHI PHI* PHI
Chicago (5-8) at Baltimore (7-6): No BeatPick here – Baltimore is a unanimous pick over Chicago, though. BAL BAL BAL
Minnesota (11-2) at Carolina (5-8): Strange that there is no BeatPick here, given the records. But it shows that Minnesota hasn’t played the toughest record. Still, Minnesota is a unanimous pick. MIN MIN MIN
NY Giants (7-6) at Washington (4-9): No BeatPick here either, but the NY Giants are unanimously favored over Washington. NYG NYG NYG

For the first time since the early season, there’s no difference in the picks between iterative and standard, although many more of the picks are beatpicks in iterative.
